Vehicle Graphics

Vehicle wraps and graphics can be used to partially or completely cover a Minneapolis vehicle with an advertisement – it’s like a mobile billboard! Wraps are achieved with large vinyl sheets as “decals.” The vinyl can be removed with relative ease, drastically reducing the cost to change out the graphics. Vehicles with large, flat surfaces such as trailers, buses and light-rail are often wrapped because of their size and ease of installation, but cars, trucks, boats and motorcycles can also be wrapped to promote a business or just to create for a unique, personalized look.

KORT Sign Design provides custom branding for corporate fleets, national franchises, transportation agencies, municipalities and commercial clients; we’ve even wrapped a food truck or two that you might have seen around St. Paul and Minneapolis. Using cutting-edge installation practices, KORT can handle your most challenging vehicle wrap needs in our own facility.

The Red Pig and Truffle, one of our clients, has a successful food truck business and asked for our help in making a vehicle wrap that matched the great food they made. Through our planning and design process, we came up with a wrap that displayed their love for food while looking delicious.

Vehicle wraps are an affordable way to increase brand identity and name recognition. An Arbitron, Inc. (Nielsen), study shows that more than 95% of Americans travel by car each week, creating a mass audience for your advertising. One vehicle wrap can generate between 30,000 – 70,000 impressions each day! Vehicle wraps are now being recognized as an extremely cost effective and unique form of outdoor media for all kinds of businesses. Guaranteeing your satisfaction, our graphic designers will create photo-accurate, high-resolution promotional displays for your company cars, vans and trucks.

How Much Are Vehicle Wraps?

The appropriate answer is, of course, it depends.  It’s all based on time and material.

How much of the vehicle do you want to cover?  Is it a few simple decals with your logo, phone number, website, etc.  Or is it a complete, full bumper-to-bumper wrap? Imagine how long it takes to remove door handles, lights and wrap inside of a doorjamb and then re-assemble all the parts back onto the vehicle.

How ‘swoopy’ is your vehicle?  In other words, how many curves are there?  If it’s a food truck with lots of rivets, that takes time to heat and mold the vinyl.

What type of vinyl is needed for your vehicle? Solid colors or vinyl that can be printed on? If you have a logo or graphics with gradations, then we’ll have to print it.

An average cost, to answer the question, and this will change over time, is about $12 – $15/square foot or:

$200 – $500 – Decals here and there

$2,000 – $3,000 – Partial wraps on most cars

$3,000 – $5,000 – Larger vans, trucks, etc

$5,000+ – Food trucks and trailers

Can Vehicle Wraps Be Removed?

Short answer is yes.  However, so can tattoos.  It’s a process, but it can be done.  How good it looks after they are removed is the other question and will depend on what wrap materials were used and if any primer was used on the install.  Some companies cut corners and use a less expensive vinyl NOT intended for vehicle wraps. That’s probably why ‘those’ guys were cheaper than the ‘other’ guys.

We use a heat gun (carefully) to heat up the adhesive underneath and slowly, painfully pull and stretch the vinyl off.  If the wrap has been on there for 3+ years, the wrap tends to get ‘baked on’ and is hard to get off. Plus, if the vinyl material and laminate material separate, it’s now two layers and very difficult to remove.  Difficult = Time = Money.

On some vehicles and especially on the edges, we sometimes need to use a primer to ensure the vinyl stays adhered to the vehicle.  This is very difficult to remove, and it will leave a residue from the adhesive. We try to use adhesive remover; stinky nasty stuff, but sometimes it just doesn’t want to come off.

Bottom line: if it’s been wrapped in quality print wrap vinyl and it’s only been a couple of years, nothing has been primed; it should be relatively easy.  We will be happy to look at your vehicle and give you an estimated for either installing a quality product, or removing your existing vehicle graphics – no matter what shape it’s in.

Hope to see you soon!

Are Vehicle Wraps A Good Investment?

Yes! The cost per impression is so much less than traditional advertising. A recent article from ARD Ventures, a venture capital firm in conclusion “Vehicle wraps are an outstanding addition to an integrated marketing strategy.” Considered as Mobile Billboards, this medium is very affective according to this article in Green Image Marketing specifically, 2.5 times more attention than a static billboard!

Another white paper from Out Of Home Advertising Association, says that vehicle advertising can be the most effective and efficient form of out of home advertising, reaching more consumers at a lower cost per thousand impressions than any other form of advertising.

It’s proven to be worth it!  And seriously, why wouldn’t you do it?  Today, it’s kind of disturbing to have an unmarked wan pull up to your home or business. Who are these people, why are they here, what do they want?

Vehicle wraps may have seemed a little odd about 10 – 15 years ago but they are here to stay and growing in popularity. Think about it; it’s the salesperson that never sleeps!

Where do you install vehicle wraps?

We design, print and install here at KORT Sign Design all year around.  All the tools we need are in our shop, which is a heated indoor space with a 20’ ceiling.  With that said, we can travel to the customer’s site when needed. For example, we had a customer that owned several semi-trailers but only one truck which was always on the road, so we had to wait for a ‘good’ day, no wind, good temperatures, etc. to get it done on-site.

Speaking of semi-trailers; we do have limitations in our space.  We can fit a vehicle that is 10’H 10’W and about 20’ long in our space. However, we have arrangements with a company to borrow their space that can fit a semi-trailer.  We are ready for anything and everything.

Stop by to see the design studio and wrap shop sometime.  We are conveniently located near downtown Minneapolis in Golden Valley, close to Plymouth, St. Louis Park and New Hope.  Read our blog “Why we need to see your vehicle” to understand the process of designing and installing vehicle wraps
