Channel letter signs are custom made. Considering there are over 300,000 fonts in the world, plus the unique configuration or design or your company’s logo, it’s no surprise that this type of sign can’t be purchased ‘off the shelf.’ Channel letter signs can be made in any height, shape and color, so each is unique and takes multiple types of materials and processes to make.
We developed a pricing guide with the letter height on the left side of the grid and the number of letters on the top side. It’s very rudimentary and we don’t want to set any expectations. Because, again, there are just too many variables. But we use it in the field to give the customer a ‘ballpark’ price. Also, the material prices increase all the time. Just this year, 2019, we’ve had two 5 – 10% increases in aluminum due to tariffs and other factors. With that said, most of the projects we’ve done have been from $3,000 to $7,000. But we’ve had some $20,000+ as well. These prices include designing, manufacturing and installing. However, it does not include the final hook-up to the power source; that must be done by a Master Electrician.
That’s the story on cost, but what is it worth to you and your business? A lot! In advertising and marketing, Cost Per Impression (CPM) is the measured of cost that one will pay when their ad is shown per one thousand impressions. Now that you have an idea from above what your channel letter sign will cost you can quantify the number of people who will see it, and your CPM. Typical cost to advertise in a magazine is $500 to $20,000, depending on whether the publication is local or national, the size of your ad, whether you use color and if you’ve negotiated a multiple-ad rate. You can spend as much as $500,000 to buy the inside front cover of some national magazines! And that only lasts a short time.
Once you sign is created and installed – you’re done. The sign works for you now and way into the future, building brand awareness and recognition in addition to providing a way for people to find you. Your sign is your first impression and long-term image. Do you want a cheap, crappy sign or a great, classy sign that makes people want to do business with you?
